The Latest Ponte Pants
If you think ponte pants are just glorified leggings, the latest styles may change your mind. This year, ponte pants are polished, tailored styles that are as comfortable as they are elegant. Here’s the style that I bought, as well as a few other options you might want to add to your closet…

What Is Ponte?
Ponte (pronounced “pon-tee” ) is a double knit fabric; two layers of fabric knitted together. Ponte is short for Ponte di Roma, which means bridge of Rome in Italian, named for the way the two layers are “bridged” together to create one fabric. Though ponte refers to the construction, not the fiber, it is typically made from rayon, nylon, and spandex. The result is a washable, wrinkle-resistant, stretch fabric that is heavy enough to create tailored looks.
My Tailored Ponte Pants
I just bought these Banana Republic Wide Leg Drapey Pull-On Pants to wear with buttoned blouses and sweaters. Even without a belt, I think they look very polished, but if you want to cover up the pull-on waistband, there are belt loops. There’s also an Everywhere Pull-On Pant that doesn’t include the pleating in the front, if you prefer a slimmer silhouette. Body pants come in Regular, Petite, and Tall sizes.

Other Classic Tailored Ponte Pant Options
I like the wide leg silhouette, as it minimizes my curves, but if you prefer a slimmer leg opening, try the Straight Ankle Pant. There are Skinny styles as well, but I think they look more like leggings than polished tailored pants.

What To Wear With Your Ponte Pants?
Style your ponte pants the same way that you would any other pants. I’m planning to wear mine with my buttoned blouses, cashmere sweaters, sweater jackets, and wool coats.
