How To Wear Suede Sneakers This Fall/Winter

Black Suede Sneakers
During the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale last year, I bought these Vince Suede Sneakers. The black is no longer available in this style, but there is a version with shearling lining still available. It’s also available (and currently on sale) on the Vince website.
If you’re doing a search, be aware that this style comes in both men’s and women’s sizes. I thought I found them a couple of times only to realize I was looking at men’s shoes!
Other Popular Colors For Suede Sneakers
If black isn’t your color, you’ll find plenty of options in brown, burgundy, gray, olive, and other popular fall/winter colors. Consider the casual pieces in your closet and pair them with darker colors. Lighter suede is beautiful but difficult to keep clean!
My black Vince sneakers are now available in chocolate brown and this fun animal print. Nordstrom has a couple of lighter browns in stock as well.
I bought these Adidas Tokyo Sneakers this year to wear with dresses. They’re not quite ballet sneakers, but they’re very low-profile and have a slim sole. I sized down half a size in this style.
What Styles Of Suede Sneakers Are Trending?
What I’m seeing most this year is low-profile sneakers (cut low at the ankles) with minimal midsoles. Most have a logo or design on the side in a contrasting color. Soles are natural rubber (gum-soled), white, or cream, or they may match the shoe color.
I’m also seeing a lot of sneaker-mules; slip-ons with faux laces.
Which Sneakers Are Out Of Style?
This year, I’m not seeing the chunky Dad sneakers and high platform sneakers that we saw a few years ago. You’ll still see running shoes with heavy soles, but as fashion sneakers, these are looking dated. Opt for low-profile, retro, low-heel sneakers instead.
How To Wear Suede Sneakers
Suede sneakers are very versatile, as they are both casual and sophisticated. Wear them with jeans and stretchy pants, but also try midi skirts and casual dresses.

How To Care For Suede Sneakers
Suede’s texture makes it a little more susceptible to dirt and stains, so I usually wear my suede shoes and boots on dry days. I still spray them with a waterproof spray (mine is this one), just in case, and I brush them when I come in to remove any surface dirt. Always test your cleaner in a small area to make sure that it doesn’t stain or damage your shoes.
