Fall Fashion Trend: The Horse Motif

Western and equestrian clothing have inspired the fashion scene for a couple of years now, with cowboy and riding boots, cow prints and suede, plaid and polo shirts. But this year, we’re also seeing the horse motif in prints, embroidery, and embellishments. Even though I’m not a horse girl, I was tempted by a trench coat with embroidered horses! I bought this Embroidered Cotton Blend Trench Coat, inspired by an equestrian-themed fundraiser that we’ve attended for a few years now. Unfortunately, the smallest size was too big for me, so I had to return it, but it would have been perfect for the occasion and weather! If you’re taller than I am (5’4″), it might be a great fit for you!

Horse Motif Tops & Sweaters

I’ve found so many horse motif tops and sweaters this fall, ranging from elegant silk blouses to whimsical graphic tees. I would style these with pieces that don’t look western or equestrian, like tailored wide-leg pants or relaxed jeans, to avoid the look of a uniform.

Designer brands like Hermès, Ralph Lauren, and Gucci have built their styles around equestrian looks, but if you’re looking for affordable options, try Aqua and Maeve.

Scarves & Accessories

Another affordable way to try the horse motif trend is with printed scarves and accessories. Wear these as a fun accent to your everyday casual clothes, or pair them with your tailored jacket and riding boots for an equestrian look.

Jewelry And Bag Charms

Hermès created the Rodeo bag charm (which retails for around $1000) over ten years ago, and it seems to have inspired many affordable versions this year. Add a leather horse charm to your current handbag for a touch of French style.

If you want a subtle expression of your love for horses, try a charm bracelet or a chain bag charm.

Are you a horse girl? We live on a hobby farm that once had horses, but none of our kids showed interest in riding. I only tried once and failed miserably, so for now I’m going to enjoy equestrian-inspired fashion!
