I wore this Madewell Satin Midi Dress to an indoor-outdoor party that we just attended. It was still warm enough to wear alone when we were inside, but when the party moved to a tent outside, I had my Oversized Cashmere Wrap to keep me warm.

I did have to wear a strapless bra with this dress, but I think the cutaway sleeves are more flattering for soft arms than a regular sleeveless cut.
If you prefer a cardigan to a wrap, take a look at this sweet little Short-Sleeve Cashmere Shrug and this Superfine Cropped Cashmere Cardigan.
Here are some more sleeveless fall party dresses that you might like. I chose ones that are not too tight, short, or low-cut. And they all work with ballet flats, kitten heels or high heels.
Short-Sleeved Dresses
If you prefer a short sleeve, these are some options that work for dinners, parties, and events. They all have fairly loose sleeves, so if you have soft upper arms as I do, these shouldn’t cling! These sleeves might be too bulky to wear under a cardigan, so take a wrap with you. In addition to my J. Crew oversized wrap, I also have this Bloomingdale’s Travel Wrap.
Long-Sleeved Dresses
If you prefer to skip the layers, try one of these long-sleeved dresses.
A 3/4 sleeve length will give you room for your favorite bracelet stack while keeping you warm. I’m also seeing quite a few 3/4 sleeve dresses with feather or fur trim – a fun detail for a special occasion!
Add tights to a mini – patterned tights are trendign again. You can also swap your usual party pumps for knee-high boots. I’ve been wearing these with dresses – they have an elegant pointed-square toe.
Petite Fall Party Dresses
If you are petite, you know how tricky it is to have party and formal dresses altered. It’s never just a matter of shortening the hem, as we also have shorter torsos. So when I can, I try to find petite sizing in dresses. Here are a few options that I’ve found for Fall 2026.
