Key Fall 2023 Fashion Color Trends
The colors that keep popping up in Fall 2023 fashion trend reports include red, brown, yellow, icy blue, gray, and olive. That’s not to say that you can’t wear other colors, but consider adding one or more of these trending colors to your outfit. For example, navy is a staple in my closet and this fall, I’ll wear it with brown, red, or gray.
Red
If you only add one color to your closet this fall, make it red (or magenta or burgundy).
Do you find red to be a bit intimidating? Then remember these tips:
1) Wearing the right shade of red for your coloring can make all the difference.
If you have cool undertones, choose ruby red, Viva Magenta, or burgundy. If you have warm undertones, wear tomato red, coral red, or orange-red.
2) You can wear a lot or a little!
For a bold look, wear a red dress, red pants, or a red blazer.
If you prefer red as an accent, try red lipstick, red nail polish, or red accessories.
Brown (From Espresso To Chai)
Brown has been trending for a couple of years now, and this fall, you’ll see it in every shade from deep dark espresso to a light creamy chai.
For a classic but trending look, combine shades of browns and creams in one outfit.
Yellow
If you have warm undertones, try a saturated yellow. If you look better in cool colors, yellow can be a bit tricky, so try a light “butter” yellow.
Glacia Blue / Dusty Lavender
Glacial blue is a light gray-blue color (also called smoky blue or icy blue). Dusty lavender is similar but with a hint of pink. Both are trending for fall and look great with browns, navy, grays, creams, or soft pinks.
Gray
Traditional office/workwear pieces are trending (more details below) including business suit gray or school-uniform gray colors.
Fashion Style Trends For Fall 2023
Office Wear
Even if you don’t work in an office, consider adding some workwear staples to your closet: a classic white shirt, a soft silk blouse, tailored pants, blazers, and tweed lady jackets.
Dress these pieces down with jeans or dress them up with soft, tailored pants.

Dark Clean Denim
Clean dark denim (without any distressing or fading) is trending this fall. Some of the silhouettes that you’ll see are high-waist wide leg jeans, straight-leg jeans, bootcut jeans, flares, and cargo jeans.
Low-waist jeans are also trending, but unless you have a flat tummy, they aren’t flattering.
Skinny jeans are considered “out” but I’m hanging onto mine for the winter when I’ll be wearing knee-high boots and snow boots. If you love your skinny jeans, try incorporating them into an outfit with pieces that are currently trending for example with a classic white shirt and loafers.
Prefer skirts? Try a long denim skirt. They’ve been around for a few years now, but seem to be making headlines lately.

Split-Hem Pants
Split-hem pants have made a comeback, and are a nice way to show off your favorite shoes or boots. You’ll see front-slit and side slits in dress pants, athletic wear and jeans this year.
Vest Tops
This fall, you’ll see lots of vests worn as tops with loose pants or jeans. You’ll find both structured buttoned vests, as well as soft sweater vests.
Maxi Skirts
Maxi skirts are also an ongoing trend. This fall, they come in a variety of styles including body-hugging knits, straight slip skirts, and tiered full skirts.
For a classic look, wear your maxi skirt with a fitted or cropped top. For a trendy look, wear it with a baggy sweater or sweatshirt (like we did in the 80s!)
Peplum Tops
A peplum top has a seam at the waist and is loose at the hem. Just be aware that this style can emphasize your tummy so if that’s something you want to minimize, try a subtle peplum rather than a full one.
Handbags And Accessories For Fall 2023
If you’re on a budget or just limiting your shopping, consider updating your handbag. Choose a color and style that works with most of your outfits. The current trends are:
Structured Top-Handle Bag
Structured, lady-like top-handle bags are trending this fall. Whether you choose a mini handbag or a large satchel bag, a structured bag will give you a polished classy look.
Crescent Bags
I’ve been talking about half-moon/ crescent-shaped bags for a while now so what’s new about them for fall? Some are soft with a knotted handle (inspired by this Bottega Veneta Jodie handbag). Others are structured like this Marc Jacobs one.

Convertible Clutch Handbags
If you’re a minimalist, you might just need a small clutch handbag. I have my eye on this Bricklane Red Reva Clutch which has a gold chain strap for a hand-free option.
Bucket Handbags
Bucket handbags are also on trend this fall. You’ll see every size from tiny drawstring versions to large structured bucket bags. I’ll be using this burgundy bucket bag that I bought a couple of years ago.

If I were looking for a new bucket bag, I would buy this nylon one with a zippered pocket or this clean, classic medium-sized one.
I haven’t mentioned belt bags, as they are more of a staple these days, but if you’re looking for one for active days, take a look at this one or this very popular one.
Fall 2023 Shoe And Boot Trends
Loafers
If you don’t already have a pair of loafers, it’s time to buy a pair. Choose a smooth classic pair or a modern lug-sole pair. Wear them with jeans, tailored pants, mini skirts, and even dresses.
Leather Boots
The three boot styles that are trending this fall are simple knee-high boots, lug sole boots, and sleek ankle boots.
Ballet Flats And Mary Janes
Ballet shoes whether they are pointed, cap-toe, or Mary Janes.
Clogs And Mules
Clogs and mules have also been trending for a couple of years, and continue into Fall 2023. I love these Mellow Mules and these convertible clogs.
Sneakers
Sneakers are going anywhere and range from minimalist canvas skate sneakers to essential white sneakers to chunky sole running shoes.
The most unusual shoes that I have seen for fall are these Pierced Slingbacks and these Pierced Mule Sandals. If you try them on please let me know if they’re comfortable! I’m still trying to wrap my head around the heel on top!

Thanks for these great fashion tips. Love them!

Hello Nipa,
You have put together quite a collection of beautiful pieces here. I especially like the handbags. Those are so easy to refresh your wardrobe with into a new season. Iโve been hearing about the color red too. Looks like I need to find a few things in this color.
