High Vamp Ballet Flats

High vamp ballet flats (which cover more of the top of your foot than low vamp ones) look modern and elegant.

I recently bought these Reiss Amelia Flats to wear with my fall dresses and work outfits. They’re soft and comfortable and I find my feet don’t slip out like they do with some of my lower vamp shoes.

If you are looking for an elegant pair of flats, take a look at these Tuckernuck Silk Flats with a notched vamp. They’d be lovely for holiday parties and other indoor events.

Comfort shoe brand Naturalizer has square-toe options.

Elevated Mary Jane Shoes

Mary Jane shoes have been trending for a few years now. If you’ve avoided Mary Jane shoes because they look too youthful, try one of these more sophisticated styles. Double straps, open-weave leather, wide straps, and embellishments give Mary Jane shoes an elevated look. These are the Dolce Vita Bayee Flats. They were a touch too narrow for my almost-wide feet, so I had to return them, but if you have regular or narrow feet, they are a gorgeous style.

The latest styles in Mary Jane shoes have embellished straps which give them more of a sophisticated look than basic Mary Jane flats. These Veronica Beard Selene shoes have gorgeous charms on the straps. These Dolce Vita ones are similar and more affordable.

For a more subtle look, try these Vince Leather Mary Jane shoes, which have simple metal accents on the straps. These Boss shoes have a Chain Strap, and Ann Taylor’s Mary Jane Flats have a solid metal strap.

Ballet Shoe And Pointe Shoe Inspired Flats

This year, I’m seeing everyday shoes that closely resemble actual dance shoes. These Tory Burch Peep Toe Flats made me smile as they have a hole in the front like my daughter’s canvas ballet shoes after she’s worn them out!

I’m also seeing flats that have elements of pointe shoes: square toes, pleated details, elastic straps, or ribbon details. There are designer flats like Christian Louboutin’s Cassiasticina Flats and affordable ones like Dolce Vita’s Satin Shoes.

I saw these Steve Madden high-heel ballet shoes the other day. Steve Madden also has Ankle Wrap Flats but they weren’t available at my local store. Neither are my style, but my daughter, the dancer, thinks the heels are pretty cool.

I’m not sure how much the satin shoe trend will catch on, as it’s not easy to keep satin clean, and I’ve heard that we’ll see leather shoes with a satin finish later this year.

These Tony Bianco Leather Flats have the criss-cross elastic and pleated toes of ballet pointe shoes. I haven’t tried this brand but these shoes look pretty comfortable.

Lace-Up Shoes

There are also lots of lace-up details on flat shoes like these Madewell Greta Flats. If you don’t like to wrap and tie the laces, take a look at these Naturalizer Flats which you can slip on.

Ballet Sneakers

Ballet sneakers are back from the early 90s when we first saw them. Adidas has one with Criss-Cross Straps. Puma makes a fun Satin pair as well as a Lace-up Leather pair.

I’m also seeing flats inspired by jazz shoes like these Madewell Greta Oxfords and these Camper Lace Up Shoes. J.Crew has a funky Lizard Embossed pair.
