The Cotton Wide Leg Pants I’m Wearing Instead of Jeans
I usually have three kinds of pants in my closet: tailored pants for professional events, jeans for every day, and pull-on pants for weekends and workouts. Then I found these cotton wide leg pants, which are a combination of all three styles – chic, casual, and comfortable! I’ve been wearing them instead of jeans. Here are the details, and how I’m styling them…

My Cotton Wide Leg Pants
These are the Organic Stretch Twill Wide Leg pants by Pact. Pact is a sustainable brand that uses organic cotton and is manufactured in GOTS-certified, Fair Trade factories.
These pants come in two lengths: 28″ and 30″. I’m wearing the Small 28″ in Midnight Blue (which looks a little more like slate blue to me). If you’re taller than 5’4″, these might be ankle-length for you. On me, they’re a full-length style. You’ll find these pants at Pact and at Nordstrom.
The fabric is softer and lighter than denim, so it’s nice for spring when it can be cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon. It has a button and zipper for a polished look, but the back has a partial elastic waistband for comfort.
Cotton Wide Leg Pants Outfits
I often wear my cotton wide leg pants with a basic t-shirt and sneakers or my Birkenstocks for a simple, casual outfit. For full-length wide leg pants, I wear “chunky” shoes to balance the volume of the pants. If these are ankle length or cropped on you, they might work with ballet sneakers, Mary Jane ballet flats, or flat sandals.

If you don’t like to show an elastic waistband, wear it with a t-shirt that covers it. My ATM cropped t-shirt is the perfect length to cover the waistband without looking frumpy. It’s no longer available, but the cult favorite Box Cut Tee by Everlane is very similar.
You can also cover the elastic waistband with a jacket, leaving it open in the front for a polished but relaxed look. I’m wearing my Rails Alma Jacket. You can also wear these pants with a cropped denim jacket for a relaxed look or a cropped trench jacket for a more refined look.

Why I’m Wearing These Cotton Wide Leg Pants Instead of Jeans
After wearing jeans all winter, I love having a softer but still refine pair of pants to wear at home or to run errands. After gaining a few pounds over the winter, I appreciate the elastic waist. And because the front has a button and zipper, these make me feel more put together than my athletic pull-on pants.
If you like this style, but want more color options, take a look at these Wit & Wisdom Crop Wide Leg Twill Pants or these J.Crew Factory Stretch Cotton Wide Leg pants. These are made in regular cotton (not organic), but they have a similar look and feel. For more professional options, try these Ann Taylor Cotton Blend Pants (52% Cotton, 45% Lyocell, 3% Elastane) or these LOFT Stretch Cotton Belted Pants (97% Cotton, 3% Spandex).

I’m glad more brands are offering shorter inseam options. These look great, love how you styled them!
Me too! I’ev read that the average age of women in the US is 5’3.5″ yet there are so few petite and short options! xo Nipa
