Elevated Basics For Spring
If you’re looking for comfort and style, you need some elevated basics! This spring, while many of us are working from home and juggling different tasks, we could all use some elevated basics. They are comfortable enough for when we’re cleaning up our workspace but polished enough to wear during our video chats.
What Are Elevated Basics?
Your basics are your every day simple, wear-with-anything clothes: jeans, solid t-shirts, leggings, shorts, jackets in neutral colors, etc. (If you have a more formal dress code for work, your basics might include button-down shirts, tailored skirts, pants, and blazers.) Basics are easy to mix and match but they can sometimes be a bit boring. Elevated basics are a little more creative with color, special accents, or unusual fabric choices. They’re perfect for an at-home celebration, when working from home, or if you just need an update to your closet.
Floral Wrap Midi Skirts
Pull-on midi skirts have been a staple for most of us for the past few years. This spring, I’m seeing some fresh new floral wrap midi skirts that have just a little more flair. They’re obviously not quite as comfortable as my favorite new leggings but the a-line shape and soft fabric give me plenty of room to move.

This print is currently sold out, but there is a beautiful navy floral version available (and currently on sale!)
LOFT’s linen blend casual Floral Wrap Midi Skirt comes in pretty pinks and blues.
Ann Taylor’s Floral Wrap Flounce Skirt is very elegant and more professional.

For a casual look: wear your floral wrap midi skirt with a fitted t-shirt. Throw on a cardigan or denim jacket when you need an extra layer. Add sneakers or casual sandals.
For a more dressy look, add a fitted blouse and pumps.
Printed T-Shirts
Tie-dye t-shirts have been a huge trend for the past year, but many of them remind me of the ones that my kids have brought home from camps. This one is a little more sophisticated and didn’t make me feel like I had raided my kids’ closets! I’m wearing my regular size (extra small.) Unfortunately, the regular sizes in this color are sold out, but they do have it in petite in most sizes. This one from All Saints is similar but looks a little less fitted.

If you need something a little more dressy, Ann Taylor’s Bow Tie Dye Mixed Media Shell is so unique and chic! It would look lovely with white pants or jeans.
If I haven’t convinced you that tie-dye can be elegant, then here are some floral options that you might like…
LOFT’s Wildflower Scoop Neck Tee would look pretty with tan shorts or white pants. Ted Baker London always designs beautiful, elegant floral t-shirts that can be dressed up for work. Wear these with tailored pants or a-line skirts. =
Crochet, Eyelet And Lace Accents
One of the reasons we tend to buy neutral colors and simple styles is that they are easier to mix and match than prints and bright colors. Make your outfit even more interesting with some crochet, eyelet, or lace accents.

I love this navy blouse that I received as a gift a few years ago, as it has a cute crochet trim that makes it different from my other blouses. (If crochet reminds you of your grandmother’s doilies, then take a look at this gorgeous handbag from Stella McCartney- it made me change my mind!)
Ann Taylor’s Eyelet Top adds a feminine flair to a simple blouse.
This Lace Hem Top and Eyelet Mixed Media Top from LOFT are both elevated basic white t-shirts.
If you’re looking for some fun new jeans, J.Crew has an all-over eyelet pattern on their 10″ Demi-Boot Crop Jean In Eyelet. Natural is the new white.
Leave me a comment and let me know your favorite elevated basics!
