What Are The Spring 2021 Fashion Trends?
Spring merchandise has started to trickle into the stores, and it seems like the most prevalent Spring 2021 fashion trend is comfort (yay). Retire your high heels, and invest in loafers, kitten heels, and flatforms. Switch your structured blazer for a knit blazer or shacket. Put away your skinny jeans for the day and try some wide-leg pants instead. There are even some new fashion categories that you’ll want to know…
1. Athflow And Luxe Lounge
If you’re looking for comfortable stay-at-home styles, there are two Spring 2021 fashion terms you’ll want to look out for: Athflow (coined by Pinterest Predicts) and Luxe Lounge (capsule collections by many brands like Banana Republic, Theory, and L’Agence). They’re upgrades to your usual weekend leggings and hoodies and are often made in luxurious fabrics like cashmere, merino wool, and Tencel. Here are a few casual, luxe lounge trends you might want to pick up for spring:
Matching Sets
Monochromatic (one color) dressing very popular right now, so consider buying a matching set.
Madewell’s MWL (Make Weekends Longer) mix and match collection is made in sustainable fabric like Tencel and organic cotton.
If you want something truly luxurious, try Banana Republic’s Cashmere Sweater Zip Hoodie with matching wide-leg pants.
Jumpsuits
Need something even easier than a matching set? Try a jumpsuit, boiler suit, or romper.
Banana Republic’s Sandwash Cropped Wide-Leg Jumpsuit can be dressed up for work with a leather belt and blazer or dressed down with a denim jacket or cardigan.
For inexpensive jumpsuit options, take a look at Amazon’s Daily Ritual ” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow”>Supersoft Terry Jumpsuit or Tencel Short Sleeved Jumpsuit.
Loose-Fitting Shirts / Tunic Tops
Trade your button-down shirt for Banana Republic’s Tencel Tunic or Everlane’s Collarless Air Shirt.
Or if you want the look of a button-down shirt, but the comfort of a knit top, Amazon’s Daily Ritual has just the thing! Their Long-Sleeve Relaxed Button-Down Shirt is made from a tightly woven cotton knit so that it looks like a structured shirt but has the stretch of a comfy t-shirt.
2. Wide-Leg Pants And Joggers
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been living in leggings and skinny jeans, so when boot-weather is over, I’ll be ready for some looser pants.
If you liked the Brooklyn Jogger that I wrote about in my How To Wear Joggers post, Athleta has it in solid colors. (If you’d like to be the first to see my latest posts, subscribe below!)
I also love Athleta’s wide-leg Balance Pant which comes in regular, petite, and tall sizes.
Since I’m petite, I prefer full-length wide-leg pants which give the illusion of longer legs, but if you’re tall and live in a warmer climate, cropped wide-leg pants are perfect for spring.
3. Shackets, Coatigans, And Chore Jackets
If you didn’t already pick up a shacket this winter, you can still find one this spring. Look for a solid color or a texture (like corduroy) for spring.
Banana Republic Sweater Shirt Jacket comes in great or chocolate brown (which will be a popular color next fall).
Club Monaco’s Perfect Blazer has the details of a blazer, but the softness and stretch of a cardigan (a.k.a. coatigan!)
If you prefer a more structured fabric, you might like a chore jacket; a boxy shirt-jacket with pockets. Madewell’s Chore Jacket is simple and chic. J.Crew’s Ruffle Trimmed Chore Jacket has a romantic, feminine detail.
4. Ribbed Knit Dresses And Skirts
You may already have a ribbed knit top, but do you have a dress or skirt?
You might like Banana Republic’s Ribbed Knit Dress with Side Slit or Vince Camuto’s Pencil Skirt. Just be aware that this kind of knit will be figure-hugging.
5. Romantic Blouses
Puff-sleeves and ruffles have been around for a while and they’re still a strong Spring 2021 fashion trend.
I really like the details on this cropped WAYF Lindford Pintuck Top and the puffed-sleeves on this Rebecca Taylor Long Sleeved Silk Floral Blouse.
If you prefer a knit, take a look at LOFT’s Floral Cinched Puff Shoulder Top.
6. Slides, Clogs, And Other Comfort Shoes
Slides (shoes you can literally slide into), mules and clogs will be everywhere this spring.
If you’re working from home you may just want some comfort slippers, but if you’re back at your workplace, Tory Burch’s slide sandals are classy-meets-comfort.
(For some of my recent comfort shoe purchases, take a look at Fashion Sneakers post).
7. Pillow-Bags And Water-Bottle Bags
Designers like Luis Vuitton and Fendi have shown water-bottle holders in their runway shows, but that trend hasn’t quite trickled down to more affordable brands. Until then, the rest of us will have to carry our water bottles by their built-in holders (Takeya is one of my favorite brands) or in our tote bags.
If you’re looking for something new, try a pillow bag like Staud’s Bean Bag:
Spring 2021 Fashion Colors
If it’s still too cold where you are for spring clothing and shoes, you can still get in the mood with colors!
Pantone chose two colors of the year for 2021: Illuminating, a bright lemon yellow, and Ultimate Grey, a medium neutral gray.
Some of the other color trends. that I am seeing:
1. Warm Earthy Neutrals
Camel, rust, caramel and tan look beautiful together.
2. Pink
This year you’ll see a lot of bubblegum pink and hot pink.
3. Fruity Brights
I’m seeing a lot of tangerine orange, strawberry red, kiwi green so U’m calling them fruity brights!
4. White
White is a classic spring and summer color, and goes with everything. Just pick the right shade of white for your skin tone; most of us look better in a soft white than a bright, optic white.
5. Pastels
Lavender, sky blue, mint and baby pink and mood-boosters and we could all use a little of that this year!
If you aren’t quite sure, which colors work for you, start small with something like nail polish (mine is O.P.I.’s You’re Such A Budapest!)

I love floral prints and spring colors. I just ordered some shirts and a light sweater in pale blue and some pink colors. Hopefully lighter colors will help us feel happier!
Hi Chris! Glad you found some new spring tops! I ordered some bright pink tops and am still looking for some pastel pieces… xoxo Nipa
