My First Fall 2022 Fashion Purchases
Most of us consider August to be mid-summer but in fashion, it’s the beginning of fall or pre-fall. If you’re Nordstrom shopper, you already know that the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale gave us a chance to make our first 2022 fall fashion purchases. These are some of the fashion items that I bought during the sale, and what I ended up keeping…

Jeans
Jeans are always on my list for fall fashion purchases, and 2022 is no different!
If you’re looking for new jeans, consider wider leg openings like flares or bootcut options. Skinny jeans will always have a place in our closets (especially for those of us who wear boots through fall and winter) but wide leg openings are trending right now.
I bought Joe’s The Provocateur Petite Bootcut Jeans. These have a 28″ inseam, 17″ leg opening, 9″ front rise which is just about the perfect set of measurements for my 5’4″ frame. These jeans fit me like a glove, and I didn’t even mind the lower rise (just below my belly button). I also like that the hem is finished (not raw) which gives me the option of wearing these to more formal places.
If you’re taller, there’s also a regular-sized Provacateur Bootcut Jean which has a 30″ inseam.
I also bought the Leenah Raw Hem Wide Leg Jeans by Paige which were really snug even in my usual size 27. I did like the wash and the size of the flare so I’m considering buying the next size up.

Boots
Chunky boots are continuing to trend this fall, so if you don’t already have a few pairs, consider adding them to your 2022 fall fashion purchases.
I ordered these Miller Water Resistant Chelsea Boots from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. They have plenty of room for my almost-wide feet and were very comfortable. I’m keeping these for casual outings this fall. Even at their regular price, these boots are quite affordable.

Leggings And Joggers
I tried on the famous Spanx Faux Leather leggings that many of my influencer friends own. They were very comfortable and made me feel rather bold! But then, my daughter came in and told me that I could only keep them if I were also planning to buy a motorcycle, so I’m reconsidering my choice!
If you’re looking for basic, affordable black leggings, I liked Zella’s Studio Luxe High Waist Pocket Leggings. I’m holding on to them until I try the Soft High Waist Pocket Flare Leggings so that I can choose between them. Flared leggings aren’t quite as practical (as they don’t work with all boots) but they do look fresh for fall.
Prefer joggers? I really liked Zella’s Live In Pocket Joggers, especially the contrasting ties. I’m holding onto these until I check out the Restore Soft Pocket joggers. I bought the Restore Soft Pocket Leggings last year and loved them.
Oversized Tops
Because I wear skinny jeans and leggings so much in the fall and winter, I’m always looking for oversized t-shirts and hoodies to wear with them.
I really wanted to like this Zella Relaxed Long Sleeve Shirt but the body was a little too boxy and the arms a little too skinny for me. If you like a very loose top, this might work for you.
I also bought the Alo Cozy Hoodie which is more of a hoodie-style t-shirt than a sweatshirt. I’m wearing the S which feels a little big on me so I’ve ordered the XS to compare. I love the Bright Orchid color, and it looks like purples are going to continue big in 2023.

Dresses And Skirts
I bought this Rails Ashlyn Smocked Dress because the print works so well for summer and fall. I can wear it now with white sandals and later with a black cardigan and shoes. Unfortunately, it has sold out, but here are a few other options in summer-to-fall prints. The Angelina Line Blend dress is a cute mini version of the Ashlyn.

Faherty’s Montara Shirred Long Sleeved Line Dress is 100% linen but in warm, fall colors.
If you read my last post, 5 Simple Eileen Fisher Dresses And Skirts, you know that I bought quite a few styles and sizes of Eileen Fisher dresses.
I’m definitely keeping the black Mock-Neck Tie Waist Dress in XXS because you can’t go wrong with an LBD, especially one as versatile as this one. The tie-waist makes it very figure-friendly as you can adjust it to your shape.
I’m also considering the Dark Brownstone Pencil Skirt in XS because midi pencil skirts are trending this fall. Even though I sized up from what I bought in dresses, I’m considering trying a small for a little more room.
I’m also thinking about keeping the V-Neck Dress in Marine in XXS because it’s such a fun bright color, and an easy dress to wear.
Sunglasses
There were some really good sales on sunglasses (especially designer styles) so I bought three pairs to try: Coach’s 57mm Gradient Sunglasses, Quay Australia’s It’s My Way glasses, and Jezabel 51mm Sunglasses. I share photos and details in a future post!
So those are my 2022 fall fashion purchases! What are you buying for fall?

I love the dresses you bought and the boots.

Hi Regine, Thanks so much! Xo Nipa
Wow, can’t believe that flares and bootleg jeans are back in! Will be interesting to see what trends come down here in NZ with Spring on the horizon.
Hi Cat, I’ll write about fall trends soon, but in the meantime, yes, flares and bootcut jeans are back in style! xo Nipa
Jeans are always a great place to start with updating your wardrobe. I love a new pair of boots too, and the ones you purchased are great. Thanks for sharing your picks. You are going to be very stylish this fall.
Hi Nancy, jeans and boots are usually my first fall purchases! xo Nipa
Great post!
You got me thinking about what I need to add for the coming fall season. Black boots for sure.
Rosemary
Hi Rosemary, Fall is just around the corner! Looking forward to seeing what you buy for fall! xo Nipa
Great post Nipa! I’m usually not into fashion really. It’s usually jeans + t-shirts for me. But I have been thinking lately that a wardrobe refresh might be in order, especially in the footwear department. Thanks for the inspiration! And I really love those boots and the jeans!!
Hi Marie-France,
When my kids were young, I used to rarely buy clothes. When I started updating my wardrobe recently, I was surprised to see how much change there was in the fit, quality, and durability of clothes, especially in jeans. So you might find some new favorites! Thanks so much for reading my post. I really appreciate your stopping by. xo Nipa
Hi Nipa,
Lots of goodies here! I didn’t buy from the Nsale this year, but did find some deals of things that were on the site elsewhere on sale ( after the fact). Love that pretty dress on you with the taupe heels. The wide leg jeans look great, I love to have a variety of jean styles too! I almost bought those chelsea boots, but did refrain as I have a fair amount right now. Love the burgundy color and they look comfortable.
I would be all for the Quay sunglasses if only I didn’t need prescription. You got some great buys!
Have a great weekend!

Hi Jess,
I picked up a few things in the regular sale too! It’s hard to think about fall right now, but last year I found that I was glad to have picked up a few staples early on. By Halloween, it’s always cold here in NY and it usually catches me off guard! xo Nipa
Oh wow you got a lot of really nice things. So funny but I was just searching for chunky boots online the last few days and love this oxblood shade!
