My Favorite Lip Products (For Mature Lips)
Every winter, my lips feel dry, but lately, I’ve noticed that they have less color and volume, too. So, in this season of life, I carry lip products everywhere I go. I try to avoid harmful chemicals and look for lip products made to moisturize and plump my mature lips. I often refer to the EWG’s Skin Deepยฎ database, which rates skincare and beauty products from 1 (low hazard) to 10 (high hazard).

Lip Balms And Overnight Masks
No color
When I need a simple lip balm, I use Burt’s Bees Original, Beeswax Lip Balm, which receives a low hazard rating on EWG. It’s also affordable and widely available.
At night, I have been using a La Neige Mini Sleep Mask Set that I received as a Christmas gift. It works wonders overnight, but if you’re concerned about ingredients in your products, EWG gives these products a moderate hazard rating.
Tinted
I have the Cocokind Ceramide Lip Blur Balm in two colors. Be Powerful is a nude on me, and Be Bold is a deep berry. I also have the cute initial charm that personalizes my lip balms (yes, lip product charms are a thing).
Cocokind’s lip products receive a low to moderate hazard rating (depending on the color) on EWG’s database. I love that these give me a nice pop of color.

These products are called balms, but they come in a tube, so if you’re looking for a solid balm that’s EWG Verifiedยฎ (i.e., meets the most strict requirements for hazard-free ingredients), try Honest Beauty’s Tinted Balm. I haven’t used them, but I will be adding one to my cart the next time I’m at Target.
Another affordable tinted lip balm option is ESW Beauty’s Soothing Lip Treatment, which my daughter picked up at Whole Foods (also available on Amazon). She moved on to much more exciting celebrity-founder brands since then, so I ended up with them! I have the Guava Mango Smoothie and the Mocha Coffee Snoothie, both lovely flavors. They’re made with shea butter and peptides, so they’re very moisturizing.
Lip Oil And Lip Gloss
If you haven’t tried lip oil, I wrote an entire post about it here. I loved Ilia’s Balmy Lip Oil, which you’ll find on Amazon. It has a different feel and texture than gloss – not quite as heavy or sticky as most glosses. And it receives a very low hazard rating from EWG.
If you can’t find the Ilia Lip Oil, try the Gisou Honey Infused Lip Oil. I tried my daughter’s Bellini Peach, which is probably too light a color for my lips, but it feels very much like the Ilia Lip Oil. (Note that EWG gives Gisou lip oils a higher hazard rating than Ilia).
I also tried her Fenty Gloss Bomb, which gave me more pigment than the Gisoum, but it has a similar feel. Fenty’s lip gloss also gets a moderate hazard rating from EWG.

Plumping Lip Products
I received a travel-size Makeup By Mario MoistureGlowโข Plumping Lip Serum (from Sephora on my birthday). It comes in a stick, but it is so soft that I found I applied too much of it. So apply with a light hand! It gave my lips a tingly feeling, and definitely moisturized my lips, but I’m not sure I noticed a plumping effect.
Recently, I’ve been using OLEHENRIKSEN’s Pout Preserve Petites Mini Lip Trio with Peptides. This mini set is currently on sale at Kohls but if it sells out, it’s also available at the OLEHENRIKSEN website. These lip treatments have a hint of color and flavor (citrus, creme brulee, and strawberry) and are very glossy. My lips do feel fuller since I started using this, but since I’ve been using several products, it’s hard for me to tell whether this one is working in isolation.

Hint: This would make a cute Valentine’s Day or Galentine’s Day gift!
I also tried out my daughter’s Kosas Wet Lip Oil Plumping Peptide Lip Treatment Gloss, available at Credo Beauty, Nordstrom, Sephora, and Amazon. It felt a little more like a balm than the Ilia Lip Oil. Most colors receive a moderate hazard rating from EWG.
Hydrating Lip Color
If you’re looking for a lipstick with moisturizer, these are the lip products that I’ve tried for my mature lips:
Westman Atelier’s Lip Suede Matte Lipstick is a splurge, but it is luxurious and more moisturizing than you would expect. I have it in Blushy Nude, which is more of a pink than a nude.

I also bought LYS Beauty’s Speech Love Moisture Matte Lipstick to carry in my smaller handbags and clutches. It’s very affordable and moisturizing. It’s not rated on EWG, but other LYS Beauty products get a low hazard rating.
I love the Ilia Lip Sketch crayon because it’s travel-friendly and lasts between meals. Although it’s supposed to be hydrating, I find that I need to prep my lips with balm beforehand. It comes in 15 shades at Sephora and on Amazon.
So, which are my favorites? There really isn’t one miracle product! But I find that if I keep my lips moisturized (and I drink a lot of water too), they feel pretty good all winter long.
