How To Create Outfits With Linen Pants
Do you wear linen pants in the summer? Linen is ideal for warm weather as it has a loose weave that allows heat to escape from your body. It also absorbs moisture and dries quickly. Linen pants can have a casual, carefree look or a clean tailored look. With the wide range of styles available now, you can find one that suits your body type whether you are petite, curvy, or slender. Here’s how you can create some chic outfits with your linen pants…

Cropped Linen Pants Outfits
Cropped linen pants can be a cute substitute for shorts, but know that any cropped style can make you look shorter. If that’s not an issue, wear your cropped linen pants with your favorite flats and add a pretty anklet.
If you’re petite, try cropped linen pants that have vertical stripes to create the illusion of length. A high waist also helps create the look of long, lean legs! And, of course, you can always wear heels.
With wide-leg cropped pants, wear a fitted t-shirt or tank top. One of my favorite tank tops is Everlane’s Organic Cutaway Tank. I wear a size S which is my regular size at Everlane. Pick from one of 12 colors and patterns. Just make sure that you have a racerback bra to wear with it. I wear Soma’s Enbliss Racerback Bralette with mine, but you could also adapt your favorite bra with this bra clip.
With slimmer cropped linen pants (like the striped J.Crew linen-cotton pants), you can tuck in a loose t-shirt or top.
Outfits With Full-Length Wide-Leg Linen Pants
I’m petite, so I skipped the cropped pants and opted for full-length ones. I’m wearing Athleta’s Cabo Linen Pants in a size 4 in the Chambray Blue. This style also comes in black, white, or rose, as well as dark blue (in a textured linen version). I did try the 4 Petite, but I preferred the slightly longer waist of the regular size 4 (and Athleta offers free hemming).

With high-waist wide-leg pants, you’ll need a cropped top or one that tucks in. Too much volume or length on top would look sloppy and out of proportion. If you haven’t heard of the rule of thirds, it suggests that you should create one-third and two-thirds proportions with your clothes: for example, your t-shirt would cover one-third of your body, while your pants cover the other two-thirds.
I also wear these pants with my pink Everlane Organic Box Cut Tee which I bought a few years ago and still love. It’s long enough for me to do a partial tuck into these pants, but if you’re taller, it would probably be a true crop for you. If you prefer a fitted cropped t-shirt, try J.Crew’s 90’s Cropped Organic Slub Cotton T-shirt (I’m wearing an XS).

Linen Joggers
Looking for more joggers? Athleta’s Cabo linen pants also come in a jogger style. They’re fitted around the hips and thighs, so if you’re pear-shaped, don’t worry, you won’t find a lot of excess fabric in that area. (More details about jogger styles that flatter your body in this post).
Calson’s Linen Joggers are similar and available in green, navy, gray, and black.
What To Wear With Linen Trousers
Looking for linen pants that you can wear to the office? Try tailored trousers with a fitted waistband. Wear these as you would any other tailored pants like a blouse or button-down shirt. Try a bodysuit with a blazer or a linen vest.
How To Care For Your Linen Pants
Most linen pants are machine washable, but some require dry-cleaning or handwashing, so read the labels before you buy them. Once you wear and wash them, accept the wrinkles, or iron them out. On vacation without an iron? I sometimes hang up my clothes at the other end of my shower and let the steam take care of the wrinkles. If you have a small shower, you may want to invest in a steamer. I have this Conair Portable Steamer and it works quite well!

Living in Florida, I love wearing linen pants!
You explained the rule of thirds perfectly. And I believe thatโs the answer to not looking frumpy.
Great post!
Rosemary
Hi Rosemary, Thank you so much! And, you’re right, the rule of thirds is often the difference between a frumpy outfit and a chic look! xo Nipa
Linen and summer go very well together itโs a very breathable fabric because itโs all natural. Unfortunately for that reason it will wrinkle. Good tip on how to care for linen pants.
Hi Nancy, It took me a while to get used to the wrinkles, but I think it fits the mood of summer! xo Nipa

I’ve always avoided linen as I hated having to iron it, but your advice to embrace the wrinkles might just convert me!
Hi Cat, I mostly embrace the wrinkles, but for some styles, I use my steamer to keep my linen crisp and smooth. xo Nipa
Now that we live in AZ, I’ve been adding more linen to my closet. I need to find some linen joggers, that sounds perfect.
