Fall And Winter Mini-Trend: The Scarf Coat

September 20, 2024January 10, 2026 Updated onJanuary 10, 2026 Fashion

What is a scarf coat? It’s a relaxed, wool or wool-blend coat with a matching scarf. If you’re shopping for outerwear this fall and winter, you’ll notice that the scarf coat is still trending. Here’s the scarf coat I bought and how it has inspired me to create new styles with what’s in my closet…

The Scarf Coat I Bought In Fall / Winter ’24/’25

My oversized wool scarf coat is from Banana Republic (Fall 2024). I love the deep, rich chocolate color and soft, unstructured shape. I wear it buttoned up at the neck with the scarf or open to show the lapels.

Long Scarf Coats

My scarf coat is sold out, but Aritzia’s Double Faced Scarf Coat is very similar, and made in Italian wool (98% recycled). Its scarf is longer and slimmer than mine, making it easier to wrap (than mine, which can be a bit bulky).

REISS has a beautiful scarf coat in cream, and one in petite sizes in navy. Both are wool/polyester blends.

Petite Studi is an NYC store dedicated to petite sizing. Their Silk And Wool Scarf Coat is very similar to mine.

Short Scarf Coat

If you prefer a shorter coat, take a look at J.Crew’s Scarf Coat. It’s available in camel, cacao, and black.

Looking for a pop of color? Mint Velvet’s Scarf Coat is available in red.

How To Create Your Own Scarf Coat

If you have a plain boxy wool jacket or a long wool coat, you can create this look with your own scarf. The keys are to choose matching (or coordinating colors) and to choose an oversized scarf or wrap. Think warm, luxurious, and cozy.

If you don’t have a wrap or scarf, this Cashmere Scarf and this Cashmere Wrap come in many colors. Match one to your current coat.

Add a Puffer Scarf to your current puffer coat for a casual interpretation of this trend.

I pulled out this (very old) coat from my closet and tried it with black and printed wraps. This was my favorite look – it gives me a chance to keep wearing my wraps as scarves instead of just as my outer layer.

The Scarf Sweater

If you live somewhere warm, you can still wear this trend in a cardigan or sweater form. This Halogen recycled polyester blend cap sleeve sweater has an attached scarf that can be draped over your shoulder. Or try this Mango short sleeve scarf sweater in pastel green.

Let me know if you’ll try this mini-trend. Will you buy something new or create it yourself?

So I bought this corduroy mini skirt to wear with my knee-high boots. Later in the fall, I'll add tights and a jacket...or swap out the cap sleeve sweater for a long sleeved one.

I always know that I've made a good purchase when I always know that I've made a good purchase when I cut the tags immediately and wear the outfit! (Usually, I think about, try it on again and think some more πŸ˜†)

This @loft dress is one of those good purchases. It's an easy lightweight dress for cool mornings and warm afternoons. And if you're fighting that midlife belly like I am, there's plenty of room without being shapeless.

Okay, I'm a little late to the Adidas party, but i Okay, I'm a little late to the Adidas party, but in my defense, everyone talks about how chic they are, but not how crazy comfy!

I just bought three burgundy ones and then the tan ones too 🀫

How many pairs of sneakers do you have? (I didn't include my older pairs so I'm guessing I have 8 pairs?!)
