1 White Silk Blouse, 3.5 Ways To Wear It
While our kids were little, I avoided wearing white and never bought anything in silk. Then, earlier this year, I realized that life had settled down enough that I could handle wearing a white silk blouse! I found one at The Kooples, and have loved wearing it for both casual occasions and nights out. Here are my favorite ways to wear a simple, button-down white silk blouse, and options for buying one if you don’t have one already…
White Silk Blouse Options Online
$ Everlane has several silk shirt options, including a versatile Clean Silk Relaxed Shirt. Reviewers say that the white one is sheer, so you may need to wear a camisole underneath. I have several of Ann Taylor’s Stretch Cami pieces that I wear regularly. For warmth, you could wear a long-sleeved bodysuit instead.
$ If you want something heavier and also washable, try Everlane’s Washable Silk Relaxed Shirt.
$ Equipment has a similar style Signature Slim Shirt with pockets.
$$ Club Monaco’s Tonal Edge Silk Shirt has hidden buttons which makes it look so clean and elegant!
$$$ Vince’s Slim Silk Blouse also has a clean (no pocket) look. Note that it isn’t 100% silk. It includes 8% spandex to give the blouse some stretch.
$$ If you prefer 100% silk but like to be able to move around, try an oversized shirt. I like the Oversized Silk Shirt from & Other Stories.
Note that most of these shirts have a “dry clean” only label. You’ll have to use your judgment on whether you want to spend the money on dry cleaning or wash them by hand. I wash most of my silk pieces at home using a gentle detergent, but I do have some expensive silk scarves that I would send to a professional cleaner, should they need to be cleaned.
Knotted Blouse + Bootcut Jeans + Wedges
My blouse is loose enough to tie at the waist. My bootcut jeans are the Paige Manhatten Bootcut Jeans in 26P. I’m just under 5’4″ and these are still long for me, so I wear them with heels. If you’re petite like me, keep in mind that Paige jeans tend to run long.

$ If you’re looking for a new wedge boot, take a look at Lucky Brand’s Yesrah Wedge Bootie from DSW.
$$ I also love Linea Paolo’s Felicia Wedge Bootie which is a sneaker-bootie hybrid.
Tucked Blouse + High Waist Pants + Heeled Booties
For a more professional look, tuck your white silk blouse into wide-leg pants.

I bought my pants earlier this year, so they are no longer available, but the following are similar:
$ Aqua Pleated Waist Wide-Leg Pants
$ 1.State Crepe Wide-Leg Pants.
I’m wearing my Dolce Vita Elisa Booties, but I wish I owned Madewell’s Regan Boot In Snake Embossed Leather!
A silk blouse doesn’t have to mean delicate, sweet jewelry. I love mixing up my looks with a heavy silver chain necklace. This Kendra Scott Double Link Chain Necklace is similar.
Untucked Blouse + Camisole + Skinny Black Jeans + Slip-On Shoes
If you have a gorgeous belly that you’d to show off, then the latest way to wear a button-down shirt is to keep the bottom half unbuttoned. After three pregnancies and too many pieces of chocolate cake, I don’t really have a belly that I want to share with the world so I wear a camisole under any revealing top. I’m wearing the Collette Silk Cami from Anthropologie (past season’s color).

$ If you prefer something slimmer, Boden’s Silk Cami is semi-fitted.
$ Eileen Fisher’s Silk Camisole is clean, simple and has a modest neckline.
I’m wearing the coated Stilleto Skinny Jeans from Current/Elliot. They also have an uncoated version. Of course, you could substitute these jeans for your favorite black leggings.
My slides are from Kate Spade (previous season) but there are plenty of animal print slides and mules available online now.
$$ If I don’t buy those Madewell boots, I’m going to buy the Alicia Mule In Snake Embossed Leather!
$ If you prefer faux leather, these Crown Vintage Lacertae Mules are under $50.
Unbuttoned Blouse + Skinny Jeans + Slip-On Shoes
Here’s the 0.5 to my 3.5 styles: the same blouse but unbuttoned all the way.

Which style is your favorite? Do you own a silk shirt? Why or why not? Leave me a comment below to let me know.

The Beauty And Benefits Of Silk Fabric.

Hi Paula, I have to say I’ve had my share of spills when there hasn’t been a kid in sight. In fact, a few years ago, a friend of mine offered to take some photos of me for the blog and every time I came out with an outfit on, she pointed out a stain on my top. Eeek! xo Nipa
I’m not so “little” anymore and my husband and rest of my family still act surprised whenever I wear white because I am so prone to spilling stuff on myself haha. Just the other week I ruined my favorite sweater- just thinking about it makes me sad (and kinda angry at myself, lol).
Love all these options, especially the second one. You look fab!

Love these outfits. A silk blouse is always so elegant. I used to avoid things this too when the kids were younger. It’s nice to have more options again.
Thank you, Julie! I do try to think of the little perks of having older kids when it seems like they are growing up too quickly … nicer clothes, a little more time to think, and adult conversations without interruptions! xo Nipa
Hi Ruth! Thank you so much. Silk does need a little extra care, so I mostly wear it out (but not on a night when I’ll be eating pasta with red sauce!) xo Nipa
I haven’t had anything silk in my wardrobe in a very long time and it’s mostly been price and maintenance. I recently bought a silk skirt and I love the way it looks and feels. Now I’m ready to look at a white shirt (that I didn’t even realize I needed) in silk. I love all three point five ways of wearing it ๐ And the wedge booties and the leopard mules…..I definitely need some mules and leopard would be a perfect fit. LOL on the bare belly….I’m with you – it’s babies and chocolate cake and wine that put mine out of shape and it looks OK under camis but I definitely am not proud of it. I love the way you’ve styled these and you rock those coated jeans!
