Why You Need A Printed Maxi Skirt This Fall
I like to have a variety of clothing in my closet, but there are a few popular styles that I don’t usually wear; leather jackets, cut-out tops, crochet vests, and maxi skirts to name a few. So imagine my surprise when I walked into our local Ann Taylor store and couldn’t keep my eyes off this printed maxi skirt. My brain said, “It’s too long and poofy and impractical!” My heart said “Ahhh.” Needless to say, my heart always wins. I fell in love with the colorful batik print, the paper bag waist detail, and the crisp cotton blend fabric. Not to mention, it has pockets!
So, here’s why I think you “need” a printed maxi skirt this fall…

1. You Can Wear A Printed Maxi Skirt With SO Many Different Tops
If you love wearing dresses, you’ll love that the maxi skirt gives you the feel of a dress but allows you to wear it multiple ways by changing your top.
This Batik Floral Paperbag Pocket Maxi skirt has quite a lot of volume, so I recommend wearing it with a fitted t-shirt or fine wool sweater to balance that volume. If you really want to be on-trend, then try a sweater set like this sweater tank and matching cardigan.

For maxi skirts with a high waist or paper-bag waist, try a cropped cardigan or jacket. My cropped jacket is the Helena Denim Jacket from Kut From The Kloth. I love that it is a lightweight denim with plenty of stretch for ease of movement. As it gets cooler, I’m going to switch to a cropped wool sweater jacket.
Follow me on Instagram for more looks with this maxi skirt from now until mid-fall.
If you prefer a maxi skirt that drapes a little closer to your body, then take a look at Farm Rio’s Vibrance Maxi Skirt. A slimmer style without the paperbag waist will also give you the option to wear a longer chunky sweater.
Want a more fitted skirt? Free People’s That’s A Wrap Maxi Skirt is slim through the hips and thighs.
If you’re looking for a long skirt to wear to work, this Printed Maxi Skirt from & Other Stories has a very understated, geometric print.
This ba&sh Galina Tiered Maxi silk skirt is a dressy option. It would look lovely with a cashmere sweater.
2. Color Coordinating Is Easy!
If you tend to wear a lot of neutrals, or the same color combinations, a print is an easy way to break that habit. Pick any color from the print for your top, shoes, and accessories.
One of the reasons that I love this print is that it combines warm orange and brown (which doesn’t work with my skin tone) with cooler lavender and blue (which does work).
If you love a certain color but know it doesn’t flatter your skin tone, then wear it in a print, away from your face. Pick a color from the print that does flatter your skin tone and wear that in a top and/or jacket.
3. You Can Warm It Up As The Temperature Drops
Right now, it’s still warm and sunny in New York, so all I need is a t-shirt and sandals, to complete my printed maxi skirt outfit.
If you have cooler weather, add a jacket and ankle boots. (You can read more about my favorite new fall boots in my 6 Comfortable Fall & Winter 2021 Shoe Trends post.)
When it gets cold, add tights and knee-high boots.
These Midshaft Slouchy boots from Banana Republic are also very on-trend and selling quickly.
4. A Maxi Skirt Is Very Forgiving
As the holidays roll around, many of us add a few extra pounds that may make our jeans, leggings, and tailored pants a little less comfortable. It’s always nice to have an elastic waist maxi skirt on hand to wear until the pounds come back off! No time to wax your legs? Also not a problem!
5. The Swish Factor
And then there’s the swish factor. What’s the swish factor, you ask? That movement of your skirt as your walk. It brings back memories of playing princess as a little girl, or dressing up for your prom, or walking down the aisle at your wedding. No matter how old I am, or how many dresses I’ve worn, that swish factor never ceases to make me smile.
How does a swishy maxi skirt make you feel?

Nipa,
