The Mini Swing Dress
Although there has been a focus on waist definition in fashion lately, this summer, we’re also seeing relaxed swing dresses. The mini swing dress has a triangular shape, fitted at the shoulders and full at the hem, usually without a defined waist. It’s perfect for a hot day when you don’t want anything to cling to your body. And very forgiving if you happened to take too many trips to get ice cream. Here are some mini swing dress options you might want to add to your summer wardrobe…

What Is A Swing Dress?
The swing dress is fitted at the shoulders and chest, and wide at the hem so that it “swings” as you walk. It can be short-sleeved, long-sleeved, or sleeveless, and is typically a short dress. It’s flattering to most body types.
The term swing dress is also used to describe the style that women wore in the 1940s for swing dancing; dresses with a defined waist and full skirts. If you’re looking for that style, you might like my post about the hourglass-shaped dress.

What’s The Difference Between A Swing And A Shift Dress?
A shift dress has a boxy shape, loose in the chest area with a similar circumference at the hem. There are no specific measurements to define each style, so you may see styles named “swing dress” that look more square in shape. This Athleta Linen Dress is an example.
Can You Wear A Belt With A Swing Dress?
Yes, if you prefer to define your waist, you can add a belt to a swing dress. Experiment with skinny and wide belts to see which looks best with your swing dress.
