My One Word Resolution For 2025
I’m not very good at keeping New Year’s resolutions, especially a long list of them. So a few years ago, I started choosing a one word resolution. This year, as I was driving one morning and marveling at the sunlight making everything sparkle, a word popped into my head. Did you guess from the image what it was? My 2025 one word resolution is reflect.

The Definition Of Reflect
The word reflect has several definitions. Here are the ways I’m planning to embrace them…
- To cast back rather than absorb: I tend to be sensitive, so this year I’m going to work on deflecting what isn’t healthy for me.
- To show or express: As an introvert who mostly works from home, I don’t spend a lot of time talking. Though you won’t find me launching a career in motivational speaking, you might hear my voice more, this year.
- To think deeply: For me, 2024 was a year of constant balancing, juggling, and moving forward. I didn’t take much time to look back or reflect on the past. It was also the first year that I hardly wrote in my journal. So this year, I plan to spend more time reflecting before taking action.
Even If It’s Not Your One Word For 2025…
…reflecting on the past year is a good way to start a new one. Anytime I’ve done that, I’ve been surprised at how much I’d forgotten. Sometimes it helps me realize that I’ve accomplished more than I give myself credit. At other times, I see what I wanted to do but didn’t make time for.
Here are some ways to reflect on your year…
- If you write a journal, read as much of it as you can.
- Scroll through your own social media posts to see the highlights of your year.
- Look through your photos for all the moments you did not share with everyone.
- Scan your calendar for the events, meetings, vacations, and appointments that shaped your year.
- Check your contacts to remember who you spent time with (and perhaps who you would like to connect with more in 2025)
- Meditate, daydream or just pause to reflect on the past year.
- Chat with your loved ones to see what they remember about the year.
Choosing Your One Word For 2025
I always choose a verb for my one word resolution, but if you can choose anything. It could be a state of being like calm, balanced, or healthy. It could be a feeling like love, happiness, or trust. It could be a word that you want to use more often like no, I , or even &*%$! It’s your word. You choose.
If you need more examples, I shared 45 of them in this post:
