How To Wear A Long Sleeve Midi Dress

September 23, 2018March 13, 2020 Updated onMarch 13, 2020 Fashion

Fall has arrived, so it’s time to put away your shorts, sandals, and sundresses, to make room for jackets, booties, and long sleeve midi dresses.  This summer, when I was on vacation in Europe, I was able to pick up some lovely fall styles, including this gorgeous midi dress made by Baum und Pferdgarten.  (You can read more about my trip in my posts about Oxford, British Brands, and French Style.)

I bought this dress from Feather & Stitch but if you live in the U.S., you can also find it on The Outnet.com.

Outfit 1: Long Sleeve Midi Dress + Heels

Early in the fall, you can wear a midi dress with pumps, mules or peep-toe booties.  I like to wear neutral color shoes with a busy printed dress.

Outfit 2: Long Sleeve Midi Dress With Sneakers

I have to admit, it took a long time for me to get used to the dress + sneaker look, but I think that it’s because sneakers and long dresses both used to look so frumpy! Now, we have so many sleek, luxurious sneaker options.  This dress has an unexpected knit sleeve, so a sneaker is a perfect partner.

I am looking at these three pairs of sneakers to go with my dress:

Soludos’s Beaded Elephant Sneakers

UGG’s Tye Stardust lace-up sneakers

Comme des Garรงons x Converse Chuck Taylor lace-up sneakers

Outfit 2: Midi Dress With Long Coat And Booties Outfit

As the weather cools down, throw on a trench coat, or leather jacket over your midi dress.  Just make sure the coat is long and slim and can be left unbuttoned (single, rather than double breasted).

Coats/Jackets:

If money were no object, I would buy this stunning Theory Nappa Leather Trench Coat.

I also love this festive Alice & Olivia Angela Long Coat.

This Zara Limited Edition Cashmere Coat is cross between a coat and a soft cardigan.

Booties:

These Dolce Vita Pearse booties come in 6 colors and are only $100.

I find Lucky Brand boots to be quite comfortable and these Adalan snakeskin booties are very on-trend.

Outfit 3.5: Midi Dress With Matching Blazer

Michael Kors created a  Botanical Velvet Blazer in the same print as his Botanical Georgette Handkerchief Dress and Botanical Georgette Wrap Dress.  I haven’t seen any other designer show printed jackets matching their dresses, but if I do, I’ll add them to my Fall/Winter 2018/2019 Style Pinterest Board.

3 Other Reasons To Wear A Long-Sleeve Midi Dress

  1. If you have a few extra inches on your waist, this is the perfect silhouette to skim your body and make you look taller and leaner.
  2. A long sleeve midi is conservative enough for work but can be dressed up for dinner or a party with jewelry.  This Banana Republic Anneke Floral Maxi Shirt Dress has shorter sleeves and gives you the option of wearing bracelets.
  3. Later in the fall, when it’s too cold to wear short skirts and dresses, you can still wear your long sleeve midi dress with over-the-knee boots, a scarf, and coat.

I know I’ll be wearing long sleeve midi dresses for as long as I can (before the snow arrives).  Look out on my Instagram feed for new pieces, and how I style them!

Comment BLOG if you'd like to see what I've found. As someone who doesn't like to wear heels most days, I love that ballet flats work with almost every outfit.
