A Fresh Take On The Polka Dot Print

The polka dot print is a classic and has been a fashion staple since the 1800s. As designer Marc Jacobs says, “There is never a wrong time for a polka dot.” It’s an easy print to wear. It looks good with other prints. You can wear it all year round. The traditional polka dot print is a geometric pattern, so the dots are evenly sized and spaced. Lately, I’ve been seeing a fresh take on polka dots; unevenly scattered or “painted” dots that give a more relaxed feel to this classic print. They make for the perfect transition to fall, as they have the clean look of a summer polka dot combined with a random scattering of an animal print (think Dalmation or giraffe!)

The Drop Polka Dot Print Blouse

My polka dot blouse was designed by Amy Jackson of fashion jackson as a part of her The Drop collection.

The Drop is a series of mini-collections designed by various influencers in collaboration with Amazon. Each collection is available for order during a 30-hour window. Once the window closes, Amazon makes a little more than the number of orders (to minimize waste). Because they don’t replenish stock, I recommend signing up for their emails or text alerts. Many of the collections sell out within the 30-hour window.

It takes a few weeks for your order to arrive, but it’s worth the wait for a limited edition piece. You can return most items within 30 days (though you’ll have to pay for return shipping.)

My blouse is made of a soft midweight viscose and has a relaxed (but not loose) fit. I wore it out to dinner the other night with my favorite new pink shorts and will wear it through the fall with jeans or black pants.

This collection has sold out, but there are a few pieces left from another The Drop collection (@somewherelately) in a scattered black and white dot print.

The painted polka dot print can also add some whimsy to your home office, living room, or bedroom. These neutral colors and easy-to-coordinate patterns can work with a variety of colors and styles. Wall decals, sheets, and pillows are inexpensive ways to freshen up your home (and the kids can help set it all up!)
