9 Thoughtful Mother’s Day Gifts
This Mother’s Day, we’ll all have to be just a little more creative! Most of us can’t keep our usual traditions of gathering for brunch, shopping at stores, or even visiting. But it doesn’t mean that Mother’s Day can’t be special. In fact, since we have more time on our hands, it is the perfect time to create or search for some wonderful, thoughtful Mother’s Day gifts. You can adjust all of these to your budget (money and time) and still make them special. Here are 9 ideas to help you get your creative juices flowing…

1. Photo Gifts
If you read my post 10 Productive Things To Do Right Now, and organized your photos, well done! (I’m still working on mine.) Did you end up with a few duplicates? Give Mom or Grandma a little blast from the past by putting extra photos in a scrapbook with your own notes and captions. Even if she was there, you probably have a different memory or perspective that you can share.

If you don’t have enough photos for an entire scrapbook, how about a set of photo coasters? I know that since we’ve been working from home, we never seem to have enough coasters for our mugs and glassware!
2. A Book About Mom
Why not tell her how wonderful she is, in a book that’s all about her? Or start a mother-daughter journal together.
3. Flowers And Plants
One of my dearest friends dropped off these beautiful flowers for me for my birthday. They make me smile every time I walk by them, and I thought they would be the perfect Mother’s Day gift for lockdown, when you may have to leave your gift outside her door.
You could also decorate her porch with a bunch of potted herbs, spell out “Mom” with rose petals, or if you have a garden center that’s open, buy her a tree. Years ago, my husband bought me a dogwood tree that blooms in May. Talk about a gift that keeps on giving!

4. Gift Baskets (Grocery Store Edition)
I love to put together gift baskets but the only store that I’m going to right now is our grocery store. The last time I was there, I noticed how many cute things they had that would be perfect for a gift basket. Here are a couple of themes for baskets you can create from products you’ll find at your grocery store:
Spa Basket
I noticed that the beauty and skincare aisles at my local store have been quite empty since everyone has been staying at home. You can pick up skincare (read this post for my favorite brands, manicure and pedicure essentials, hair color, face masks, and makeup.

The Healthy Snack Basket
Popcorn, smoothie ingredients, nuts or trail mix, dark chocolate, and protein bars (my favorite is ONE Protein Bar in dark chocolate with sea salt.)
5. Subscription Box
If you can’t get to the store to create your own gift basket, there are many subscription boxes that will let her sample some fun products. Did you know that you can order subscription boxes through Amazon? These are a few that caught my eye, and I think would be well received as Mother’s Day gifts!
6. Kitchen Helpers
If Mom has been cooking up a storm, there may be a few appliances that will make her life easier. I received this pasta maker for my birthday and since we have more time on our hands than usual, our entire family pitched in to make fresh pasta and meatballs. An air fryer or regular fryer may satisfy some of the cravings for your favorite restaurant meals. (I know my kids have asked for french fries more than once!)
7. Dinner Delivered
If Mom’s tired of cooking, look into the local restaurants in her area that are providing pick-up or delivery service. You’ll be supporting a local business as well as give her a night off.
8. Post-Quarantine Fashion
After more than a month of lockdown, my friends and I are starting to crave dressing up again. If Mom is a fashionista, there are some amazing sales right now for spring and summer fashion. It will give her something to look forward to when we can all resume “normal life.” I have been checking out the ShopBop sale which includes so many designer items that I can’t usually afford.
I’ve also found some comfy and casual spring pieces Amazon: tie-dye sneakers, a statement t-shirt, and a compact spring bag.
9. A Donation
If Mom doesn’t want anything at all, make a donation in her name to a non-profit cause that is near and dear to her.

Oh my goodness I LOVE this list! What a fun thing to find a beautiful little pot of flowers on your porch or to get a wonderful photo gift when you can’t see the ones you love in person. And I think anything for self-pampering (especially for the hands) is a wonderful gift. Baskets are so much fun to put together and to get. And I’m in love with that Marc Jacobs bag! I don’t spend that much on bags but I’m seriously thinking about this one! And don’t get me started on subscription boxes. It’s so fun to get a “surprise” in the mail – whether it’s a $15-a-month box or a $50-per-quarter box (I give away my monthly beauty subscriptions in a giveaway every month but I just signed up for FabFitFun and can’t wait to get started on that). Thank you so much for putting these together!

Hi Ruth, Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the post. I stopped subscribing to fashion boxes when I started this blog, but now there are so many other categories to choose from. I’m thinking about the succulent one as I love plants, but have tendency to kill mine and need to replace them! LOL xo Nipa
