How to Style a Linen (Blend) Blazer

A linen blazer is a beautiful combination of relaxed and polished style. If you’re hesitant because linen wrinkles, there are plenty of options in linen-blend fabrics that won’t wrinkle easily. Choose a cropped style if you have a shorter torso, or a longer one if you prefer to cover your hips. Here’s how I’m styling my new blazer, and some inspiration for you to create your own linen blazer outfits…

My Cropped Linen Blend Blazer

I recently bought this Cropped Blazer to wear for professional and casual events. After wearing longer coats and jackets all winter, this cropped length feels modern and fresh. While it doesn’t come in petite sizes, it’s short enough to work for my petite frame. For reference, I’m just under 5’4″ with a short torso, 125 lbs, and am wearing my usual size 4.

This jacket is 43% viscose, 32% polyester, and only 25% linen, so it doesn’t wrinkle easily. It has a twill texture and a slight sheen, and is fully lined, so it has some structure to it. It also comes in light pink and black (and is currently marked down in all colors).

Blazer + Tailored Pants + Flats

For work or professional events, I wear my linen blazer with tailored pants. (Mine are lightweight wool pants, but I just bought these Four Season Stretch pants and these Linen Blend pants to wear in warmer weather)

I’m wearing a basic t-shirt under mine, but you could wear a blouse or short-sleeved sweater for a more professional look. If you have a blazer that is 100% linen or is unlined, tailored pants will help to create an overall polished look.

Add loafers or ballet flats to finish the outfit. I’m wearing these super-comfortable ballet flats (I have almost-wide feet, and they didn’t need any break-in time). If you’re looking for ballet flats that aren’t basic, take a look.

Blazer + Dress + Sling-Backs

For a night out, I’m switching from tailored pants to this little black dress. (This boatneck dress is similar and more affordable.) If you prefer a longer dress, take a look at this Midi Dress. For all of these dress styles, I recommend a cropped blazer. A longer blazer with a long dress often looks frumpy. And a longer blazer with a short dress (especially if it’s fitted) can have that 80s look that most of us don’t want to revisit!

Blazer + Jeans + V-Neck T-Shirt

For a casual look, I’m wearing my blazer with a V-neck t-shirt, full-length bootcut jeans, and neutral heels. (My jeans are similar to these. It took me a few minutes to find the right color jeans – some were too close in color to my jacket, so they looked like a matching set gone wrong! If you buy this blue jacket, consider cream or white jeans for a higher contrast.

For a more casual look, try streamlined/low-profile sneakers. Chunky, heavy sneakers are starting to look dated, especially for spring/summer. You can also wear loafers or sling-backs for a more dressy look. Boat shoes and woven leather sling-backs are currently trending.
