My Word Of The Year 2026
My word of the year for 2025 was reflect, which I interpreted in three ways: to cast back rather than absorb, to express, and to think deeply. I also thought a lot about reflecting on the past, which translated into several trips to places I once lived, to see friends and family that I hadn’t visited in decades. For 2026, my word of the year is rise.

How I Choose My Word
Honestly, my word usually pops into my head when I’m driving or on a walk. And while it’s not the only one I consider, it’s the one that sticks. I like to choose a verb with multiple meanings, so I can apply it to various aspects of life. Here’s how I’m interpreting rise:
- To increase in numbers, volume, and reach, etc, which applies to my work and my community.
- To wake up, which I’d like to do with fewer aches and less fatigue!
- To climb, even when the road ahead feels steep or tough.

Why I Choose A Word
Life is complicated enough without another to-do list of resolutions. So I simplify it with a word, a theme for 2026 that is a gentle reminder of the direction I want to take. I use my word:
- In a mantra at the beginning of a yoga class to set an intention, or at the end during savasana.
- As a reminder, when I face a challenge or difficult situation.
- As inspiration for work, healthy habits, personal relationships, and personal growth.
