5 Prints To Wear This Spring And Summer
While we see prints year-round, they always take center stage during the spring and summer. Here are 5 prints that seem to be especially popular, and how to wear them this year…

1. Two-Color Florals
Florals are a staple for spring and summer, but every year we see certain types of florals more than others. This year, I’m seeing some high-contrast two-color florals that look so fresh, especially in two-piece sets. That’s not to say that other florals aren’t trending, but if you’re looking for something new, take a look at these:

How To Wear Two-Color Florals
If you already have something like this in your closet, add a handbag and shoes in a contrasting color to make the print pop! Basketweave and rattan accessories would also look good with these prints.
An Affordable Way To Add Prints To Your Closet
One of my favorite ways to test out print styles or colors is to buy silk scarves. They are often very affordable. Take a look at this one from J.Crew and this one from Ann Taylor. You can also find some gorgeous vintage silk scarves at thrift stores that are high-quality but affordable.
2. Soft Dreamy Florals
If you have lighter hair and skin, or prefer lighter colors, you may like the soft, dreamy floral prints that are also trending this spring and summer. Whether you’re looking for a wedding guest dress or just updating your denimcollection, these soft florals will give you a feminine, romantic look.

These soft dreamy colors look good with colors in a similar tone, so opt for white, ivory, tan, or other light colors. The easiest way to pull together a coordinated outfit is to choose one of the colors from the print for your accessory color.
3. Mixed Stripes
Stripes are also a spring and summer staple. If you want a fresh new kind of stripe, try a print with varied stripes or a style in which the direction of the stripe changes.
I’m wearing Ann Taylor’s Striped Oversized Shirt in varied stripes in XSP. You can wear this shirt fully tucked, French-tucked (one-quarter tucked), or untucked. Want to make this look even more stylish? Try an animal print or floral print belt with it.

Wear your mixed stripe prints with simple neutrals or bright colors. Or if you have two striped pieces in the same colors, you can create your own mixed stripe look!
If you want to make a statement, pair the stripes with other prints like leopard or a fun floral. The easiest way to combine prints is to find two pieces with the same colors. It’s trickier to style two very different prints, so if you’re not sure, opt for leopard or dots, both of which coordinate well with stripes.
4. Dots
Dots are another classic print, but they’re more popular than usual this spring and summer. There are some colorful options, but mostly we’re seeing two-color polka dots and abstract dots.

The dots we’re seeing this spring and summer are high contrast and bold, so every other aspect of your outfit can be pretty simple. You can pair them with stripes, a checkered pattern, or plain,d but keep the colors similar. The warm weather months are all about ease!
5. Block Print-Inspired
Block printing is actually a technique in which designs are carved out of wood and used to stamp a print onto fabric. This spring and summer, we’re seeing some block-print inspired patterns that look great for relaxed vacation and weekend styles.

Block prints originated in China (almost 4000 years ago!) and spread to other parts of Asia. So, you can continue that Asian-inspired look with gold jewelry and strappy sandals. Or you can create a more boho-chic outfit with hoops and wedge sandals.
Which Prints Are Out?
Of course, these 5 prints aren’t the only ones you’ll see this year – you’ll also see leopard, snakeskin, zebra, modern art florals, abstract florals, and more. So which prints are “out” or now? Camouflage, skull prints, animal prints in unnatural colors, and bright plaids were all popular a few years ago, but looking dated now.
