3 Chic Ways To Wear Polka Dots This Season

May 18, 2018March 13, 2020 Updated onMarch 13, 2020 Fashion

Polka dots are on every fashion item this spring, from hats to shoes, from lingerie to evening wear.  If you don’t already have some polka dot pieces in your closet, here’s my shopping guide for what’s in style.  I’ve also included links to both inexpensive trends (under $100) and investment pieces(over $500).  Here are 3 chic ways to wear polka dots this season.

Classic Polka Dots

Classic polka dots are small neutral color prints (such as navy/white or black/white).  If you tend to shy away from polka dots, or prints in general, classic polka dots are the perfect first step.  They flatter all body types from petite to plus.

This is my classic skirt from J.Crew which I bought a few years ago.  I dress it up with heels and dress it down with sneakers.

This Kobi Halperin midi has a similar classic print, with the added flair of a lace hem.

For a more casual look, Modcloth’s Style Identity button front a-line skirt comes in sizes XS-4X.

For dresses, Tahari has a faux wrap ruffle dress that comes in petite, regular and plus sizes.

There’s an elegant strapless satin dress at Nordstrom from Alfred Sung for evenings and formal events.

On the other end of the dress code spectrum, Zara has an inexpensive slip dress in a comfortable stretch fabric.

Combining dots with ruffles is one of the most chic ways to wear polka dots this season, so check out this JCrew skirt, and this one shoulder 1.State blouse.

Mixed Dots

If you read my Mix Or Match post, you know that I love mixed prints in one dress or blouse, as it saves me the time it takes to coordinate two prints.  This little silk top from J.Crew is one of my favorite purchases this month, and still available for under $20! I like to dress it up with a pencil skirt and heels.

But, I’m also planning to wear it on vacation with shorts.

This Topshop dress and wrap top also mix up dots in one print.

If you’re petite, try this Eliza J mixed dot wrap dress that combines some of spring’s best trends: the wrap silhouette, ruffles, and dots.

For some stylish spotted sandals, take a look at Mango’s platform heels with two different dot prints.

Floating Dots

Another fun trend this spring is dots on sheer or clear backdrops.  Kate Spade, whose signature print is polka dots, has a gorgeous dress in a dot-patterned tulle.  My other favorites sheer styles are her clear/dot umbrella and her mini dee dot kaci dress (which layers large white dots over a navy dot texture).

If you’re not ready to splurge on a sheer dot dress, you can always join in the polka party with sheer dot tights, a mesh dot hairband, or this clear dot Otter iPhone case.

Whatever your size, whatever your budget, there’s something dotty out in the fashion world for you.

Comment BLOG if you'd like to see what I've found. As someone who doesn't like to wear heels most days, I love that ballet flats work with almost every outfit.
