3 Summer Fashion Trends On Sale Now

Doesn’t it seem like the whole world is a bit more carefree during the summer? Even if our job requirements don’t change, there’s something about the warm weather that encourages relaxed schedules, impromptu gatherings, and vacations.  Shopping may be the last thing on your mind, but this week is actually the best week for summer sales.  While this is the beginning of summer for us, it is the end of summer for retailers.  They are marking down summer fashion trends dramatically to make way for fall.  On July 12th, Nordstrom will start their pre-fall Anniversary Sale, and soon after you will be bombarded with reminders from the media, that it’s time for back-to-school and fall shopping!  Not quite ready to think about the fall?  Me neither.  I’m taking advantage of the summer sales this week, especially these three summer fashion trends…

Wavy Stripes 

In the spring, we saw a lot of black and white horizontal stripes or blue and white vertical stripes.  For summer, designers have created some fun wavy, brightly colored stripes.  This Daphne Wrap Dress is still available at Anthropologie and combines some of this year’s favorite trends: ruffles, the wrap, and stripes.  I add white sandals, a straw clutch and delicate jewelry for summer parties, and throw on a navy cardigan when the sun goes down.

Tropical And Garden Florals 

If you read my tribute to Kate Spade, you know how much I admired her.  She sold her namesake line a long time ago, but this print is the epitome of her style; bright, cheerful and feminine.  

 Tory Burch has a Painted Iris print that is just as gorgeous, and also on sale.

Ann Taylor has a bright Vintage Floral that comes in dressy shorts or a sheath dress, both on sale with an additional 50% off today.  

Many summer fashion trends come and go, but bright florals on a white background tend to come back every spring and summer, so they are good investment pieces to buy.  

Appliqué Florals 

An appliqué is a piece of fabric (or leather) cut into a shape, finished, and then sewn onto another piece. The edges are often kept loose to create a three-dimensional effect.  

I bought this pair of sandals from Michael Kors.  It comes in six colors and is currently $78 online.  If you are looking for a handbag, Michael Kors and Coach have created a number of styles with this floral appliqué technique.  You could also add a Rebecca Minkoff guitar/handbag strap to your current handbag.   

For a gorgeous white summer dress, Anthropologie has a Farm Rio maxi dress with multicolored floral appliqué. 

Zara dresses up a black t-shirt with a bright yellow floral appliqué.
