3 Father’s Day Celebration Outfits

June 15, 2018March 13, 2020 Updated onMarch 13, 2020 Fashion

Over the past month, I’ve been asking  my husband what he’d like to do on Father’s Day and each time he has come up with a different answer:

“Whatever you think.”

“I need to mow the lawn.”

“Something stupabulous.” (Translation = stupendous + fabulous.)

“Ask me later.”

“When’s Father’s Day?”

So, as you can imagine, the kids and I have been a little baffled, but I think we’ve finally come up with a plan.  It’s relaxed but also creative, has mass appeal but is also personal.  Of course, I can’t spoil the surprise by listing them in this post (but if you really want to know, feel free to send me an e-mail).

What I can do, is help you get dressed for your Father’s Day celebration.  If you’re scrambling to come up with an activity or gift, your outfit is probably the last thing on your mind.  I have a few outfit formulas that include pieces you probably already have in your closet.  (If you don’t, I’ve included links from some of the most popular stores at the mall).

Father’s Day Breakfast-In-Bed

No, that doesn’t mean that you get to stay in your pajamas.  I started this blog, to encourage busy women to incorporate fashion into everyday, practical living.  I’ll make it easy, I promise.  Start with a basic tank top and soft, printed skirt.  The fitted tank will balance the volume in your skirt.  A flared or drapey tank with a flared skirt can look frumpy.  Wear an apron to avoid the bacon grease splatter, unless, of course, he prefers for you to smell like bacon rather than perfume.

Father's Day Breakfast Outfit: Printed Skirt + Tank Top

My skirt is an old one from Anthropologie, which I’ve styled with one of my new tanks from the Airism line at Uniqlo.  Anthropologie has so many beautiful new drapey skirts and tanks that I couldn’t possibly list them here, so check out my latest pins for dozens of skirts that are currently available.

Father’s Day Barbecue or Picnic or Ball Game

If you usually throw on a pair of shorts,  t-shirt, and baseball cap for casual events, try a denim skirt for a more feminine alternative.   Make sure you pick a skirt that has an A-line shape (wide at the bottom) or stretch (look for elastane, Spandex or Lycra in the fabric composition).   You don’t want to be constricted by a tight pencil skirt, when you’re hosting.  I just bought this denim stripe skirt from Anthropologie.  It has also sold out, but I’ll keep posting current options on Pinterest.

Father's Day Barbecue Outfit: T-shirt + Denim Skirt

If you’re near the mall, GAP has a 5 Pocket Distressed Skirt with an A-line shape that is currently $37.99, plus an additional 10% off with the code GETMORE.

For a longer style with a little stretch try Levi’s A-line Midi Skirt currently $48.00.

No time to wash your hair before the event?  Trade your baseball cap in for a pretty headscarf and sunglasses.  If you don’t even have time to tie and pin a scarf, Anthropologie makes some beautiful headbands that have the same effect.  I like to tie my hair back when I’m cooking for guests so that I don’t have to worry about someone finding one of my strands in their potato salad.

Father’s Day Date Night

According to WhoWhatWear, there are 5 items that make most men happy: heels, anything red, a black dress, something sleeveless or body conscious.  So if you have a date night planned, try a little black dress + heels + some red jewelry or accessories.

Date Night Little Black Dress + Red Accessories

This is my ponte dress from Banana Republic.  Ponte (a stretch fabric that is a little heavier so that it gives you some structure, as well as comfort).   For a similar look that you can buy now, Ann Taylor’s seamed midi dress is a casual but polished style and comes in both petite and tall.  Add these red cascade bead statement earrings and cut-out pumps from Banana Republic, or if you don’t have time to shop, take 10 minutes for a red manicure.

So there you have it.  Three different looks that you can throw together on Father’s Day or any day, really.  Hope you have a wonderful, relaxing day with the Dads in your life!

Comment BLOG if you'd like to see what I've found. As someone who doesn't like to wear heels most days, I love that ballet flats work with almost every outfit.
